HOUSING

 

 

COUNCIL FOCUS:

In March 2002, the North Carolina Council of Churches and the Central Atlantic Region of Habitat for Humanity International entered into a partnership agreement. It was the first such state-level partnership in the country.

In September of that year, Habitat and the Council introduced FaithWorks, a multi-year effort to address rural housing needs in North Carolina by building 100 homes. In asddition to homebuilding, FaithWorks includes an emphasis on education and advocacy.

WHY PEOPLE OF FATIH SHOULD CARE:

People who are poor, who lack adequate housing, are often not very influential in our democracy. So the task of people of faith who do have influence is two-fold: first, to use that influence on issues which will benefit the poor, and second, to help empower those who lack influence better to speak out for themselves.
